Virtual Audition
All auditions are virtual this year. Please review the information, prepare your music, and plan a time with a family member’s help to record your audition.
Select music - This year we have provided a required audition song list, complete with practice tracks, performance tracks, and sheet music. Please select ONE song from the approved list and begin your audition preparation with the practice track and sheet music. You will record your audition video with the performance track (accompaniment only) and your selection must be memorized.
Select a poem - In addition to submitting a song for the audition, you will need to record a video reciting a poem from memory. Select one where you can be expressive and animated as you recite. Although we are not requiring specific poems, many have selected poems from Shel silverstein or others that they have read in school
Select what to wear - Singers do not need to wear formal attire. However, please select something that you feel presents yourself well.

Prepare where you will record
- Choose a quiet area in your house where you can stand. (avoid appliance humming, lawn mowers, family conversation, etc.)
- In order to avoid shadows, make sure that there is a light source that shines on your face and is not coming from behind you. Standing in front of a window without additional light on your face will not be an adequate light source for a video.
- Position your video camera at eye level and look straight into the camera as you record.
- Place the camera on a steady surface (do not have someone hold it). Our singers have used books, legos, ladders, tables, etc. that can be formed into camera holders.
Prepare to record
- The performance track should be downloaded onto a different device than the one you will use to record your video.
- If you can, use a speaker rather than just your phone to play the performance track. However, if you don’t have a speaker, the phone will work.
- Make sure the track volume matches your singing volume, one should not be a lot louder than the other.
Record
- Press record, step back, introduce yourself (name and age) and what song you will be singing.
- Press play on the accompaniment track and begin.
- When the music is done, stop the recording.
- Record a separate video with your poem with the same instructions. Make sure you introduce yourself (name and age) and what poem you will be reciting.
Review
- Review your video. It does not need to be perfect, but it should be something you are pleased with.
- You are welcome to do another recording, but I would encourage you not to delete the first one until you are certain which one you like best.
- Please DO NOT edit the video before you upload it, this can cause changes in the quality and formatting.
Upload
- It is best to upload the video directly from the original device you used to record it.
- Click the upload link from the website Make sure to include your name in the file name.
- Make sure you are on a reliable WiFi network before you upload
- Wait for the video submission upload to complete. This can take a while. Upon completion, a message will automatically pop up confirming your submission.
