Just saw the donations that came in from the Detroit Opera House for Winter Fantasy and was blown away. You can get tickets to just about any of the shows coming through the space for the entire rest of the season! Like opera? We’ve got tickets for a View From The Bridge and Turandot; and the children’s opera, Brundibar. Broadway? Bid on the tickets to Porgy and Bess or American Idiot. Dance? We’ve got several shows to choose from. Not to mention Too Hot To Handel in Detroit and in Chicago! Or mingle with the fancy folks at Bravo! Bravo! It’s like getting to make your own season ticket package. Many former MOTCC choristers continue their musical studies after they age out of our choir. This year, five MOTCC grads are part of the Rackham Symphony Choir as either student members or part of the prestigious Rackham Internship program. Rackham is an audition-based choir led by Suzanne Mallare Acton. The group has a more than 60 year legacy of bringing innovative musical arrangements to Michigan audiences. Rackham’s next performance is Too Hot To Handel at the Detroit Opera House on Saturday, December 21. An exciting reinvention of Handel’s Messiah, Too Hot To Handel is a “jazz gospel Messiah.” It brings this classic piece to life in a transformative way; fusing two of the most distinctly Detroit music styles – Jazz and Gospel – while weaving in Blues, Swing, Classical and even Scat. It is a toe-tapping, hand-clapping evening that ends with everyone on their feet for the Hallelujah Chorus. MOTCC families are invited to enjoy this performance and see some of their former choir pals perform. There is a student dress rehearsal open to the public on Thursday, December 19. For more information about Too Hot To Handel, email [email protected] or check out www.rackhamchoir.org. The MOTCC principal choir will be ringing in the holiday season at tonight’s tree lighting ceremony at Detroit’s Campus Martius Park. The choir will be taking the stage around 6:30 p.m. Come down to hear the kids sing their holiday pieces or watch the Channel 7 live stream at http://www.wxyz.com/. The auction items for A Winter Fantasy may be the best we’ve ever had! Sports lovers will have so much to choose from, including several sets of Red Wings tickets (some with special club passes, others with autographed memorabilia); a signed Zetterberg Jersey; Pistons ticket packages including club access at the Palace; and, of course, the limited raffle for a Tigers suite. The auction will be set up by section, so you can find your way to the areas you are most interested in. So follow the balloons to the sports arena, and bid for your favorite team or favorite player. Go team! Looking forward to our annual fundraiser, A Winter Fantasy, Monday December 16 beginning at 6 pm at the Opera House. Beautiful singing by the children, yummy food, and exciting auction items, just in time for gift-giving. Especially exciting is the new, limited raffle: For $100 you can buy a chance to win a suite at a 2014 regular season Tigers game, including 18 tickets and three parking passes. The best part is, no more than 50 tickets will be sold: that means your chances of winning will be 1 in 50 or better, depending upon how many tickets are sold. An idea: buy a ticket with a few friends and go together when you win. Or, buy the ticket yourself and invite friends to share in the cost of food when you go to the game. To purchase a raffle ticket, click here to contact Luvy Corrigan. For tickets to the concert and party, click here to buy on line or call the Opera House at (313) 237-SING. This weekend on ‘Unmasked,’ WRCJ takes a look backstage at the upcoming Michigan Opera Theatre’s production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” with assistant director Michael Yashinsky. The myTunes segment features soprano Danielle Wright and some of her favorite recordings, in conversation with host Jimmy Rhoades. Danielle plays Annina, Violetta’s maid in La Traviata. The MOTCC is southeast Michigan’s premier children’s chorus, made up of talented young singers from around the metro Detroit area. Children members receive top-quality vocal training and perform at a variety of venues throughout the area. In addition, children perform on the main stage of the Detroit Opera House with professional opera productions. It is a truly unique choir, being the only such group in the United States that stages a full children’s opera every year, made up of only children actors.
